FTDI USB Drivers : VCP to D2XX

General Info

FTDI USB modules support two different drivers : VCP and D2XX. VCP( Virtual Com Port) drivers simulate a standard COM (serial) port. D2XX drivers allow direct read/write operations using a  Windows DLL and direct calls. D2XX drivers can handle data rates up to 1 Mbyte/sec. VCP drivers maximum transfer rate is 300Kbyte/sec.

Requirements

USB FTDI drivers must be upgraded to version  2.04.06  .
After downloading , decompress in a temporary folder. Then ( Win XP ) :

Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Periferals > USB Serial Converter > Driver > Update Driver

An upgrade wizard will start. Select the temporary folder as the target directory where to search for new drivers.     



Status


VCP to D2XX upgrade was completed on April 20, but will not be used in the new code because speed improvements are not relevant. Minor bugs related to this porting remain to be fixed.
